We are excited to announce that Panto Is Back!
Here are the details of our forthcoming auditions for Goody Two Shoes, written and directed by Paul Johnson with Keith Barnes as Assistant Director.
Dame Daphne Doughnut finds a young orphan who she names ‘Goody Two-Shoes’ after the girl is gifted a pair of shoes by a mysterious stranger. The villainous Demon King hears about the shoes and, believing them to have magical powers, decides to steal the shoes for himself. Will the villain succeed? Will kindness and goodness triumph over evil? Will the villain see the error of his ways? Will the moral of the story be obscured amongst the man-sized chickens, mischievous badgers, and the thrill of the chase?
Paul will be auditioning for:
GOODY TWO-SHOES (GDY) - Principal boy, an orphan, innocent and naïve, but also brave and true (female)
THE SHOE FAIRY (FAI) - a good fairy, she sees all, knows all, and hands out shoes (female)
LITTLE BOY BLUE (BB) - a nursery rhyme character, Goody’s suitor. He has a special little horn (female)
CROISSANT (CRO) - a French bakery assistant, Knockabout comedy European chap (male or female)
BAGUETTE (BAG) - a French bakery assistant, Knockabout comedy European chap (male or female)
THE DEMON KING (DMN) - the villain, bad guy who (spoiler!) turns over a new leaf at the end (male)
DEMONETTE (DTE) - the Demon King’s aide, the bad guy’s dutiful second in command (female)
JACK - a nursery rhyme character, a lad with a sore head (male)
JILL - a nursery rhyme character, a woman who gets things done (female)
Also to be cast is: THE MYSTICAL CHICKEN - a large chicken, a silly clucker (male or female)
This is a non-speaking part (apart from some pertinent clucking) in a full body costume and head and so this role is not practical to audition with the other roles. The costume is a one-size-fits-all, which means roughly 5’ 5” to 5’ 10” for the best fit. Chicken is on in Act Two only and is involved in most of the action including the chase and the finale song. We’re looking for anyone who can squeeze every ounce of comedy out of a very silly costume. We hope to cast this role ahead of the audition day so get in touch if you think you might be our Mystical Chicken!
