Meet the cast: An Ideal Husband

ree

I like looking at geniuses and listening to beautiful people.

― Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband

Brilliance and beauty: two things Oscar Wilde couldn't live without... luckily, the cast of our upcoming production of 'An Ideal Husband' have both in spades!

So, without further ado, let's meet these beautiful geniuses!

This is Alex’s first show with New Stagers, but has been acting since school before attending drama college in Stratford Upon Avon. His time at drama college finished with a leading role as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Alex is really excited to be retreading the boards after some time away and to take on the role of Lord Goring with all the flair that Oscar Wilde had intended.

This is Javi’s first show with New Stagers, and he is so excited to be a part of the team! He has been involved in drama and musical theatre since high school, mostly in Spain but also in London with Centrestage.

Javi is excited to bring this English gentleman to life (despite a not-quite-upper-class British accent), and to show a character full of contradictions, with a troubled past, who deeply cares about the love he shares with his wife.

Lady Chiltern is all about principles, perfection, and doing what’s right (or so she thinks!). She means well, but life gets complicated… looking forward to bringing the character to life!

This is Becky’s third production with New Stagers, and she is really excited to be working with such a talented cast and crew.

Rhonda is very excited to play the Villainess, Mrs Chevely, in An Ideal Husband. Villains are just more fun, dodgy accent and all!

Following her debut in Scene Unscene, this is Jen’s second show with New Stagers. She is very excited to be back with the team, working together to bring the Wilde wit to life.

Jen is a dancer, actor and theatre reviewer - with credits at the Edinburgh Fringe. She is looking forward to bringing her reviewer's eye to her own performance of Mabel!

Sam has been performing with New Stagers for nearly three years in several productions (Midsummer Night’s Dream, the award-winning The Real Inspector Hound, Exit Stage Left), including a recent run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe. With a further background in improvised comedy spanning nearly five years, as well as several upcoming theatrical projects in 2026, he’s excited to be playing this deeply conceited (and mildly comedic, yet equally textured) role to help bring some Victorian austerity to An Ideal Husband!

Susanne is excited to get stuck in with her second New Stagers production, having performed in the Vagina Monologues earlier this year.

She looks forward to being part of an ensemble as Lady Markby, imparting wisdom as only Lady Markby can! Scolding the younger generation for their modern ways and reinforcing conservative societal values while rueing the day that Sir John got too involved in politics!

Having made his New Stagers debut earlier this year with Scene Unseen, Tom is thrilled to return for his second production - a relevant, witty, and charming tale of high society and political scandal - playing two dandy London gentlemen who do their utmost to live up to the play’s title.

Nellie has been away on the grind at university, but now she’s back and ready to cause mayhem in her third show with New Stagers.

She is delighted to be playing such a relatable character as Mrs Marchmont, as all she has to do is gossip and complain about men. Easy peasy!

Liz has been a proud member of New Stagers for over eight years, performing in everything from panto to Shakespeare. Notable appearances include Hamlet, Tonight at 8.30, and The Pillowman. Liz also wrote and staged her original short play Three Women, with the company, and most recently directed a production of The Vagina Monologues. She’s thrilled to be back on stage, bringing Lady Basildon’s razor-sharp wit and charm to life.

Another Scene Unseen alumni, Ethan is excited to be back in his second production with New Stagers, playing Phipps and Mason, two characters bound together by actor and job description but separated by how much they actually enjoy their lives as butlers and the demands of their respective households.

Amit is excited to embark on his third play with amazing people. Looking forward to many moments of laughter, teamwork and growth.

Nanjac is a member of the French embassy in London (I'm gonna be trying to do the best accent I can do).

Previously a part of the touring company Classic Theatre Cumbria, Joe has performed with New Stagers for just over two years. Alongside this production, Joe recently played Demetrius in A Midsummer Nights Dream at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, and Ben Hainning in the audio play A Study in Fear. He is thrilled to be a part of this project and support the cast in bringing An Ideal Husband to life.

Ciara plays Margaret the Maid.

These are the people who will be bringing the entangled lives, secrets, and witty repartee of Oscar Wilde's classic critique of social hypocrisy and morality to the stage. Let the drama begin! 🎭'

The show takes place from 29 October - 01 November at the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre! Tickets are selling fast, so head over to the ATG website now to get yours!
